Overture Center for the Arts Gallery
I visitwd the Overture Center for the Arts Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin on October 15, 2016. The photograph titled Parfrey's Glen piqued my interest the most. Not only did it capture nature in all its glory, in black and white, but from the angle, (the forest floor looking up), the negative space made it look like there was a human-esc. form in the sky. Nature is known for its beautiful, vibrant color, but the choice to change the image to black an white made the piece even more impactful and reminded me of Ansel Adams. I think I will dabble in photography this semester, because it is a medium that isn't in my portfolio yet and I would like to try to work with it.
Chazen Museum of Art
I visited the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, Wisconsin on October15, 2016. One of the art pieces that I was amazed by the most was Chuck Close's Marta/Fingerprint. There is a woman with a resting facial expression with big hair, in black and white. If you look closely you can see that the image is created by fingerpints, adding a whole new meaning to fingerpaintng! I couldn't imagine trying to do that myself, I am still baffled b the amount of detail in the hair that he managed to get with his own, round, fingerprints. I think Chuck Close created this piece to not only just exaine natural human beings, but maybe to analyze Marta (the woman in the picture) herself. Her eyes seem to be sad, or a little lost. It makes the audience curious as to what was on her mind when the image was created.
Captiol Building in Madison

|
I visited the Capitol building in Madison, Wisconsin on October 15, 2016. I was fascinated by the detailed mosaic work by Kenyon Cox on his four mosaics. Legislation is represented by a man wrapped in blue cloth holding a tablet and a writing utensil. Government is represented by a man in red clothes holding what appears to be a staff or a sword and a scroll. Liberty is represented with a woman in green cloth resting on a white sphere. Lastly, Justice is represented by a woman in purple and pink clothes, balancing a scale. This artist did a stellar job of representing four major characteristics that the United States government tries to live by. I have never worked with mosaics before, it would be an interesting challenge is I tried to do that for one of my studios for this semester.
